Exceptional and Rare Antique Faceted Cut Steel Bead Findings of two halves of a heart with a Faceted Crescent Moon on each side - light and comfortable! Each earring weighs 9 grams (the weight of 1.8 nickels) You can see the gold backing through vestiges of silver on the backs. Photos don't capture the rich sparkle of these old findings!
(Antique cut steel jewelry, popular from the mid-18th to the late 19th century, featured hand-faceted steel studs riveted onto a metal base to imitate diamonds. Originating in England, it became a fashionable, cost-effective substitute for precious gems, especially during wartime shortages and for the middle class.)
