Vintage Mizpah Coin Halves - engraved with "The Lord Watch between Me and Thee while We are absent One from Another"...this is found in Genesis 31:49 : "God keep watch between you and me when we are out of each other's sight, and [also] Mizpah, for he said, "May the Lord watch between you and me when we are out of each other's sight.
The word Mizpah is Hebrew for "watchtower". As mentioned in the biblical story of Jacob and Laban, making a pile of stones marked an agreement between two people, with God as their watching witness. Since that time, the Mizpah has come to connote an emotional bond between people who are separated (either physically or by death).
