Rare Antique French Raised Relief Medal of Notre Dame de Myans - Our Lady of Myans is known as the "Black Virgin" and Her history is an ancient one.... the town of Myans is in the Auvergne-Rhine-Alpes region in south-eastern France. On 24 November 1248, a disastrous avalanche on Mont Granier buried whole towns and killed hundreds. When word spread that the cataclysm had stopped short at the small Chapel of the Virgin near Myans, its Ebony Statue of the Virgin and Child (from the 1100s) became a magnet of devotion. Our Lady of Myans is celebrated on 8 September, Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin and on 24 November in remembrance of this miracle.Last photo shows an exquisite French image of Her and the Infant Christ.
