I was fortunate to be able to purchase a large collection of exquisitely embroidered and stitched Antique Gypsy Kuchi & Lambani Textiles - and I am making special pouches, blessing bags, bangles and other items out of them. They have each been carefully washed and dried so any marks or other "defects" are just part of long history of the these textiles. I hope you find them as special and mysterious as I do- their owners are unknown but their spirit is definitely colorful and creative!
A note on the history of Gypsy Adornments: Gypsy jewelry has it's roots in a centuries old story of individualism and self-expression, and is about a state of mind - and then represented through the jewelry worn. Most of this jewelry includes semi-precious stones and makes use of the most accessible natural materials such as strings, cords, base metals, found items, coins and shells. Designs or motifs often include geometric shapes, floral designs, motifs like sun and star, and many spiritual motifs.
