-Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great-
Elements
From my personal collection, this Mughal Polki Diamond Cross has an amazing glow from the Bezel Set Mine Cut Polki Diamonds, Natural Pave Diamonds and Gold highlights. Unfortunately, photos don't capture the light emanating from this piece!
The Gallery shows the upraised setting and the back shows the gold work. This is not a contemporary piece and has been the in my collection for decades- the second of 2 such Crosses I have owned. The term "Polki" refers to raw, uncut diamonds that lend a lustrous, subtle glow to stunning gemstone jewelry designs The art of diamond-cutting originated in India some 3000 years ago. Indian Mughals were among the first cultures to recognize the potential of minerals mined from the earth and incorporate their beauty into wearable objects.

An historical note on Akbar:
Born in 1542 in Umerkot, Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great is remembered for his rejection of religious intolerance and the measures he took to ensure the security of non-Muslims under his reign.
