I have a large collection of beautiful antique & vintage watches, time pieces and parts....and this is another creation from them; a necklace and earring set made from antique watch parts and connectors (all tiny gears and gaskets!) What makes all of these special is the unknown people who wore these watches in their busy lives -and while they are unknown, they are a part of the history of all of us.....
Many of these still retain their "jewels" - Old mechanical watches use spring-wound movements and there are gears and bearings that need to move or rotate. Back in the day, watchmakers used natural genuine rubies to create these bearings. These precious stones are smooth and don't allow much friction and are therefore used in order to make the movement of these metal and precious metal gears easier.
