Rare 16th Century Antique Sterling Flaming Sacred Heart Reliquary Locket honoring Saint Stanislaus - Saint Stanislaus (28 October 1550 – 15 August 1568) is a much venerated saint who is known for his absolute faith and undying commitment to the Church, and was a Polish novice of the Society of Jesus. St. Stanislaus is a popular saint of Poland, and many religious institutions have chosen him as the protector of their novitiates He is invoked for palpitations of the heart, and for dangerous cases of illness. At the young age of 18,Stanislaus fell ill with a high fever, and clearly saw that his last hour had come. He wrote a letter to the Blessed Virgin, begging her to call him to the skies there to celebrate with her the glorious anniversary of her Assumption (15 August). And on 15 August 1568, towards 4:00 in the morning, he died. Many in the city proclaimed him a saint and people hastened from all parts to venerate his remains and to obtain, if possible, some relics.
The last photo shows a portrait by Scipione Delfine, the oldest depiction of St. Stanislaus in existence. Having probably been painted at Rome within two years of his death, it may be regarded as the best likeness.
On 15 August 2018 Pope Francis wrote to the Bishop of Plock in honor of the 450th anniversary of Stanislaus's death. In his message, Pope Francis cites a maxim of Stanislaus's: “'Ad maiora natus sum' – 'I was born for greater things'".
